How the HCG Diet Works

The HCG Diet is a 28 day program. HCG changes your metabolism. When you add a low calorie diet, it forces your body to utilize the stored nutrients which are stored within your fat.

Because of this physiological change it works to mobilize the abnormal deposits of fat in your body for nutrition. Thus it is not uncommon to lose 1-2 pounds a day on this diet. The HCG program can last as little as 3 weeks, or longer, depending on how much weight you need to lose.

HCG Diet plan instructions

The choices of food are available in limited quantities. You have to be consistent and strict with the HCG injections as well as following the HCG Diet.

Water

According to Dr. Simeons’ original HCG protocol, the recommended (and required) amount of water, on the HCG diet, is 2 Liters each day or around half a gallon.

Dieter’s are usually hard to convince that the amount of water they retain has nothing to do with the amount of water they drink. When the body is forced to retain water, it will do this at all costs.

If the fluid intake is insufficient to provide all the water required, the body withholds water from the kidneys and the urine becomes scanty and highly concentrated, imposing a certain strain on the kidneys. If that is insufficient, excessive water will be with-drawn from the intestinal tract, with the result that the feces become hard and dry.

On the other hand if a patient drinks more than his body requires, the surplus is promptly and easily eliminated. Trying to prevent the body from retaining water by drinking less is therefore not only futile but even harmful.

Calories

You should maintain 500 calories per day while taking the HCG. It is important that the diet be filled with as much protein and fiber as possible while staying within the 500 calorie range. For the continuing 3 weeks, all foods are allowed except sugar and starch, this includes sweet fruits.

“Because the diet is limited to 500 calories per day, there is a general fear that this decrease in food will leave the person feeling perpetually hungry, however, the 500 calorie diet, in combination with the HCG will result in a satisfied feeling.

Therefore, it is important that the diet be filled with as much protein and fiber as possible while staying within the 500 calorie range. Resistance training and low intensity aerobics like walking are highly recommended. If you are intensifying your work out you must add an “additional” 200” calories of protein preferably right before workout (i.e. protein shake).” ~ Dr. Simeons
